The Importance of Regular RV Cleaning

No one wants to roll into the campground with a filthy RV. However, keeping your RV clean is critical for a greater amount of reason than just because a dirty RV looks awful. Read on to learn about the importance of regularly cleaning your camper as well as the supplies you’ll need for properly cleaning your RV.

Why Washing Your RV Matters

A dirty RV is, for the most part, a poorly maintained RV and there are numerous issues that are related to not keeping an RV clean.

Dirt and Debris

Dirt and debris can help to trap moisture, fungus, moss, and insects close to the outer covering of the RV, all of which can cause damage.

Salt

Salt from the road can build up and corrode your RV, which can lead to cracks, tears, and holes in the metal.

Water

Once water can get in your RV, you’ll be dealing with mold, mildew, and rust.

What You’ll Need

Washing an RV can be as simple as washing a plate or cup! You basically only need soap, water, and a scrub brush. Of course, an RV is a lot bigger than a plate or cup, so you might want a ladder and a few tools to make dealing with that size easier.

If your RV has a roof that’s built to be walked on, you’ll want some boat shoes or other shoes that can keep traction in slippery conditions.

You might also want to get a larger scrub brush with a telescoping handle to get the tall surfaces without having to move your ladder constantly.

A few smaller hand brushes can also be helpful when you’re trying to clean things like rims or other smaller surfaces.

To apply the soap, you’ll need a bucket that’s wide enough to accommodate your brush, and you’ll need a mild detergent like auto detergent or dish soap for cleaning your RV.

You could also ditch all of that and use a power washer. A power washer is a simple and effective way to clean an RV, but keep in mind that the intense nozzle pressure strips away paint or vinyl graphics, especially on older RVs. Keep the nozzle at least a foot away from surfaces and keep it moving so as to avoid peeling the paint.
